Exploring the Eternal City: A Journey Through Rome

Rome, the Eternal City,

Rome is a destination that captures the hearts and imaginations of travelers from around the globe. With its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture, Rome offers an unforgettable experience for every visitor. Whether you're a history buff, a foodie, or simply looking to soak in the beauty of this ancient city, Rome has something for everyone. Let's embark on a journey through some of the must-see sights of this magnificent city.

The Colosseum

No visit to Rome is complete without a trip to the Colosseum. This iconic amphitheater, built in 80 AD, once hosted gladiatorial contests and public spectacles. As you stand within its ancient walls, you can almost hear the roar of the crowds and the clash of swords. Be sure to take a guided tour to fully appreciate the history and engineering marvels of this ancient structure.

TIPS for Rome: Travel adapters

In Canada, we use a different electrical system than Italy, where the standard voltage is 230 V and the frequency is 50 Hz. Therefore, you're going to need a travel adapter, such as our Travelon Worldwide Adapter and USB Charger.  At $37.99 (CAD) it's less expensive than an adapter you'll find in any tourist destination, especially Rome.

Vatican City

A visit to Rome wouldn't be complete without exploring Vatican City, the smallest independent state in the world. Home to the Pope and the heart of the Catholic Church, Vatican City boasts some of the most incredible art and architecture in the world. The Vatican Museums, with their vast collections, and the breathtaking Sistine Chapel, adorned with Michelangelo's frescoes, are must-sees. Don't forget to visit St. Peter's Basilica, where you can climb to the top of the dome for a panoramic view of Rome.

TIPS for Rome: Pickpockets

Wherever you travel in the world, popular tourist areas also attract a criminal element, and Rome pickpockets are definitely an issue you need to prepare for.

But despite being an issue, they are not going to ruin your stay in Rome, here is our guide to knowing what to look for and how to avoid becoming a victim of these criminals.

1. Buy tickets in advance: Pickpockets are always looking for easy targets, places where people are crowded together and distracted. Queues to get into major attractions are prime areas for pickpocketing. Avoid this high risk situation by purchasing tickets on-line, in advance, and skip the queue.

2. Dress to Impress: Pickpockets often target tourists, so blend in to look like a local.  Local Romans usually dress smartly—men typically avoid shorts and wear shirts instead of T-shirts, while women often wear dresses or skirts with nice tops. Stick to neutral or muted colors to avoid standing out. Also, don’t walk around with your camera on display. Use a small bag instead.

3. The Right Bag: Choose a bag with loads of security features, such as any bag in our Pacsafe® collection.

Trevi Fountain

One of Rome’s most iconic landmarks and a must-see for visitors, this fountain completed in 1762, is a stunning Baroque masterpiece that features Neptune, the god of the sea, at its center, surrounded by mythical figures and cascading water. Legend says if you toss a coin over your left shoulder into the fountain, you'll be guaranteed a return trip to Rome. Day or night, the fountain draws crowds with its dramatic sculptures and romantic atmosphere.

TIPS for Rome: Modest clothing

For many major attractions in Rome you will need clothes that are more covering than shorts and sleeveless t-shirts, so be sure to pack some long trousers or skirts and long-sleeved shirts to ensure entry to important landmarks.  Fortunately many of our major clothing brans such as Zaket and Plover, Royal Robbins and Cut Loose

Rome is a city that effortlessly blends the ancient with the modern, offering a rich tapestry of experiences for every traveler. Whether you're exploring its historic landmarks, indulging in its culinary delights, or simply wandering its picturesque streets, Rome promises an adventure that will stay with you long after you've left. So pack your bags, put on your walking shoes, and get ready to fall in love with the Eternal City. Buon viaggio!
