Strathcona Park Lodge

As we often say, adventure can be found around the world, or around the block.  With that mind, we recently loaded up the motorcycle and headed up-island to Strathcona Park Lodge.

The beauty of Vancouver Island is that you don't have to go far to find magnificent scenery and historic culture.

Our first stop was Willow Street Café in Chemainus.  This is an old time favourite (over 20 years) where everything is made fresh.  The lunch menu includes daily homemade soups, a selection of scrumptious sandwiches, quesadillas, wraps, paninis and daily specials.

The Right Bag

The bag on our bike is the Eagle Creek Cargo Hauler Duffel 40L, perfect for our motorcycle adventures. Made from recycled fabric, it’s durable and sustainable. Tony says, "On Vancouver Island, if you don't ride in the rain, you don't ride," so we love this water-resistant bag that has kept our belongings dry through the worst mother nature has to offer. Best of all, it folds into its own end pocket for easy storage.

After enjoying the coastal route between Nanaimo and Campbell River, we headed west along the Gold River Highway and it wasn't long before we were enjoy a refreshing swim in Upper Campbell Lake.

Strathcona Park Lodge is a secluded 160-acre wilderness retreat on Upper Campbell Lake, offering waterfront access, beaches, hiking trails, and various activities.

During your stay, you can rent a boat or paddleboard, join guided sessions for high ropes, rock climbing, or hiking in Strathcona Provincial Park. Enjoy evenings by the bonfire, stargazing, and spending quality time with loved ones.

Although free internet is available in the main lodge, it's an ideal place to disconnect and enjoy a good book.

Meals are prepared with locally sourced, organic, and in-season ingredients, and the view from the dining room is spectacular!

After a good night's sleep and a hearty breakfast, we headed out on the motorcycle for a ride out to Gold River.  The Gold River Highway is a windy route through the mountains of Vancouver Island and the scenery is outstanding.

After our ride, we went canoeing and then enjoyed the beach and some more swimming before we enjoyed a quiet evening on the balcony of our room in the lodge, just enjoying the view and each other's company.

Throughout the weekend, Jennifer made great use of her Cabana Life dresses and cover-ups.
